Story Time

October 2nd, 2009

storytelling-12x18.jpg This piece, titled “Storytelling”, was published as the cover to the 2008 Inscape Art & Literary Magazine. I’ve finally gotten around to adding it as a print to my Papermoth shop. I think the style fits in well with some of the newer illustrative work I’ve been offering as archival prints. This image was put together in Photoshop with scanned images of my original paintings and photographs incorporated as a source for texture. The concept for this image is influenced by old, worn story-books and how memory and the physical world change with age. I like the idea that as we grow older, the things we loved as children take on different meanings for us. In that way, they age with us and this is usually paralleled by their physical condition as well.

“Contemplation”, “The World Standing Still” and “Hope for Better” are three of my more recent works that share a similar approach in style to “Storytelling”.

A Welcome Change

October 1st, 2009

The Fall season is in full effect now. This is my favorite time of year – great for reflection and celebration. And of course, there’s Halloween and the great change-over and then fall of the leaves. It’s been colder than usual this time of year.  I’m hoping for a warm-up right before Winter, but it’s looking like the temps have settled into the 60′s by day. The season has inspired some new fall-themed prints. They are available in the Papermoth shop now. These are all variations of the same image and can be grouped together for display. Digitally painted and designed in Photoshop with scanned textures and ink.

Bella Aeris

August 15th, 2009

Just sent out three original paintings and a set of prints to Bella Aeris in Nashville, TN this week. The pic on the cardboard was taken after the final coat of varnish was applied.

Ann and Mark contacted me last month about selling my art in their shop and they have been very nice to work with. Bella Aeris stocks artwork from other Etsy sellers as well, so I think my contemporary nature pieces are a good fit. Their store offers a unique collection of hand-crafted art pieces. If you are in the area, please stop by their shop at The Mall at Green Hills in Nashville. You will have a chance to view these paintings in person and the prints as well. My print selection will include some of the “Perennial Moment” variations and “The World Standing Still”.

You can also view some of the beautiful work by the other artisans on their site at www.BellaAeris.com

95-rachel-barton-pine-poster.jpg I’ve added a gallery to showcase my design work. A good chunk of the work was done within the last year at Morehead State University’s Marketing Department. Some of my freelance work is in there as well.

I’ve also updated the Illustration gallery.

Work has now begun on a long overdue site overhaul as well.

Commotion – Eclectic Handmade Goods in Lexington, Kentucky are now carrying a selection of my 8″x10″ and 12″x18″ prints. The street address is:  214 W.Maxwell St.  Lexington, KY 40508
